Promoting self-sufficient families, leading Southern New Mexico Communities to reach collective solutions to issues of poverty, and upholding respect for people of all economic cultures.
Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico (CAASNM) has been working nearly five decades to lift Southern New Mexicans out of poverty through high-impact programs that build self-reliance. Our mission is building self-reliance for low-income New Mexicans by connecting our community to high-impact programs that encourage family wellness, empower families and bridge resources. One of the agencys strengths is its ability to offer an innovative and unique scope of services to help people out of poverty.
Total Benefits Services connects clients to services by pre-screening them for benefits, including: SNAP (formerly Food Stamps), access to health insurance through Medicaid, utility assistance and cash assistance. Without this vital service, clients might not know that they qualify for one or more of these programs. Our highly trained and dedicated benefits counselors have been briefed on the new policies under the Affordable Care Act and are well prepared to assist new and existing clients. Access to these programs can make the difference for families in their daily struggles to make ends meet. Clients can make an appointment to come into the office, apply online, or apply via phone. Our one-on-one TBS counseling is confidential and our staff can assist you with any questions you may have throughout the application process and waiting period.
Covering Kids program assists individuals, families, and children who cannot afford private insurance in obtaining free or low cost Health Insurance. Through Covering Kids, we advocate for families with the State Income Support Division so that they can obtain State Medicaid. How do we help? We assist in the application process, advocate for you during the process, conduct follow-up calls, remind you of recertification, help you choose a Salud or Doctor, answer healthcare insurance questions, and link you to other needed community resources.

I am close to being homeless. I just moved from California where I was a victim of domestic assault and violence. I have tried to go to Mesilla Valley Housing Authority but the application process is closed since last year. I dont have any income.
I am homeless and its cold outside, I am desperate to find shelter and cannot stay at the Amador location. My Mom & Dad live in a place that doesn't allow me to stay there, any shelter or churches I called for Vouchers for a Motel and said no money.
